They are simple, yet powerful statements that we repeat regularly, in order to change our thoughts and beliefs about ourselves and the world around us. The key to making affirmations work is to use them consistently, intentionally and with conviction.

  • Step 1: Identify Your Goal or Minor Purpose
    The first step in using affirmations effectively, is to identify your goals. What do you want to achieve in your life? It could be anything from improving your self-confidence, to closing a deal, writing a book, to finding a new job or even winning your body back. Write down your goals in clear and specific terms, so that you have a clear focus for your affirmations.

  • Step 2: Create Your Affirmations
    Once you have identified your goals, it is time to create your affirmations. Affirmations should be written in the present tense, as if you have already achieved your goal. For example, if your goal is to improve your self-confidence, your affirmation could be “I am confident and self-assured”… visualise yourself as confident and self-assured as you say the affirmation. Be specific and use positive words.

  • Step 3: Repeat Your Affirmations
    The next step is to repeat your affirmations on a regular basis. It is important to repeat them at least once a day, however, the more often you repeat them, the more powerful they will be. You can repeat them out loud, or silently to yourself.

    Belief is key to making affirmations work. You must believe that you can achieve your goals and that your affirmations will help you to do so. If you don’t truly believe in your affirmations, they will not have the desired effect. Take your time and allow it to grow on you.

  • Visualisation is a powerful tool that can help you to achieve your goals. When you repeat your affirmations, try to visualise yourself achieving your goal in the present moment. Allow your creativity to flow. Imagine yourself in the situation and feel the emotions and sensations that you would feel if you were really there, feel them now.

    Affirmations require massive action, this is not a once off event but rather the beginning of forming a new healthy habit aimed at discovering the new you. Affirmations alone will not be enough to achieve your goals. You must also take massive action to make them happen. If your goal is to find a new job, for example, you must actively search for job opportunities and apply for them.
