  • Did you know that we spend approximately a third of our lives asleep! This means that if we are lucky enough to get to a hundred years old, then roughly thirty of those years would be in a state of sleep.
  •
  • Sleep is a crucial aspect of our daily lives and is often overlooked or neglected. The truth is that the quality of our sleep has a direct impact on our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
  •
  • The intention before sleeping, conscious sleep, the different stages of sleep, and the intention for waking up are all crucial elements that play a part in determining the quality of our sleep.
  •
  • Lets get a bit closer to understanding sleep:

  • Intention Before Sleeping:
  • Intention before we sleep is a powerful technique that involves setting a specific goal or objective for our sleep.
  •
  • It is a way of programming our minds and bodies to align with our desires and create a positive outcome. The idea is to focus our thoughts and emotions on what we want to achieve during our sleep, such as healing, restoration, or rejuvenation. By stating an intention before we sleep, we are tapping into the power of the subconscious mind to bring about positive change.
  •
  • For example, when setting an intention before sleep, we could say something like “all of the cells in my body are regenerating and healing.” This intention sets the stage for our body to do just that – to regenerate and heal while we sleep.
  •
  • Another example could be “I am letting go of all my worries and anxieties for a peaceful night’s sleep.” By focusing on this intention, we are sending a clear message to our mind and body that we are ready to release any stress or anxiety, and that we are open to a peaceful night’s rest.
  •
  • The power of intention before sleep is undeniable. By setting a clear and positive intention, we can greatly improve the quality of our sleep and bring about lasting change in our lives.
  •
  •
  •
  • Conscious Sleep:
  • Conscious sleep is a state of being in which we are aware and intentional about our sleep process. It involves being present and mindful during the time when we are resting and rejuvenating our bodies.
  •
  • Conscious sleep is about being in tune with our higher-self and consciousness, and using sleep as a tool for growth and transformation. For example, when practicing conscious sleep, we could focus on being aware of our breathing, and visualising a peaceful and calming environment. We could also use affirmations and visualisation techniques to reinforce our goals and intentions, such as visualising ourselves as strong, healthy, and peaceful.
  •
  • Another example is to focus on our higher-self and consciousness during sleep, by visualising ourselves connecting with our inner wisdom and gaining new insights and clarity.
  •
  • Conscious sleep is a powerful tool that can help us to improve the quality of our sleep, and also to achieve our personal and spiritual goals. By being grateful, intentional and mindful about our sleep, we are able to tap into the power of the subconscious mind, and bring about positive change in our lives.

  • Different Stages of Sleep:
  • The different stages of sleep are characterized by different waves and frequency types that occur in our brain. The stages of sleep can be divided into two main categories: Non-Rapid Eye Movement (NREM) and Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep.
  •
  • During NREM sleep, there are three stages, each with a different frequency and wave pattern.
  •
  • The first stage of sleep is called N1 it is considered the lightest stage of sleep and is characterized by theta waves, this can last for approximately 10 minutes. During this stage, the body begins to relax and the mind starts to quiet down. During this stage, it is relatively easy to wake up as it is considered a light sleep. It is also common to experience hypnic jerks.
  •
  • The second stage, N2, is a deeper stage of sleep and is also characterized by theta waves as well as the appearance of K-complex and sleep spindles, which are bursts of high-frequency waves, and it lasts for approximately 20 minutes. During this stage, the body’s temperature begins to drop, and the heart rate and breathing slow down.
  •
  • The third stage is called N3, it is characterized by slow delta waves and it is the deepest stage of sleep. During this stage, growth hormones are released and the body is in a state of deep rest and repair. This stage is crucial for cell regeneration, the rejuvenation of the body and the mind. N3 stage typically lasts for 30 to 60 minutes and is the most restorative part of the sleep cycle.
  •
  • And finally, just before we enter into an awakened state, we enter into REM sleep.
  •
  • REM sleep,  is characterized by low-frequency, irregular waves and is the stage in which we experience the majority of our vivid and intense dreaming.
  •
  • During REM sleep, our brains are highly active, and our bodies are temporarily paralyzed to prevent us from acting out our dreams. It is also known as a paradoxical sleep. REM sleep is also important in memory and learning.

  • Intention for Waking Up:
  • Intention for waking up refers to the purpose or reason behind waking up at a specific time or from sleep. This intention can be set consciously by setting an alarm, or it can be set unconsciously through the subconscious mind.
  •
  • The intention can be as simple as waking up to start the day, or it can be more specific such as waking up early to pray, meditate, exercise, or get a head start on work. To give an instruction to the subconscious mind, the intention needs to be clear and focused.
  •
  • For example, one could say to themselves before going to bed, “I intend to wake up feeling refreshed and energized at 6:00 AM tomorrow morning so that I can start my day with a positive mindset.” This repetition helps to plant the intention in the subconscious mind, making it more likely that the individual will actually wake up with that intention in mind.
  •
  • The seed for a day filled with purpose and love can be planted before we go to sleep, nurtured during sleep and the fruits enjoyed when we awake from our sleep.
